Trendy tuber - a different take on the sweet potato...

The sweet potato was already in fashion 10,000 years ago and is one of the most important staple foods in many countries. This is also the case in Japan, where the great tuber has been used to make shochu for centuries. The sweet potato grows most frequently in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kyushu.

Against the cold: drink your Shochu Oyuwari

Shochu can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. A common drinking method in Japan is "Oyuwari", i.e. shochu extended with hot water. This drinking method is popular with us during the cold season. To enjoy a shochu oyuwari, hot water is poured over the shochu in a ratio of 4:6 or 6:4.

Shochu is not just shochu, as you quickly realize when you taste the traditional Japanese distillate. And this doesn't just quickly become clear when you are surrounded by the same basic ingredient for shochu production. 

Drinking to do good: Protecting endangered coral reefs on Okinawa with the 35 Coffee liqueur

Doing good while drinking? Oh yes, with the 35 Coffee Awamori Sango Liqueur. 3.5% of the proceeds are used to protect the endangered coral reefs on Okinawa. The producer of this special liqueur is the 35 Coffee Company, a small coffee house chain on Okinawa.   

With blossom yeast: discover the Ubugoe Shochu from Oita with us

This shochu is not just a dream to look at: Ubugoe is a barley shochu (mugi) made with white koji and flower yeast from cloves. The result is a particularly floral, fresh and fruity shochu with a taste that is second to none. It is also a Genshu Shochu, which is bottled at 41% vol.

New products in our store: Sake, Shochu and Mirin

To sweeten your summer, we have added some new products to our range. We have increased our sake range a little and have also added two Hon Mirin. Some of you may know mirin as a condiment. Only a few and exclusively high-quality mirin - like ours - are produced in Japan in drinking quality. We also have two new great mugi shochus from Oita.

Sato No Akebono Genshu Shochu: Gold at the prestigious IWSC

The Sato No Akebono Genshu Shochu won the gold medal in the shochu category at the IWSC 2021. This great shochu made from brown sugar (kokuto) is of course available from us! Incidentally, he is a real collector of ribbons: LASC 2018 in Los Angeles, Craft Spirits Awards 2019 in Berlin, Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) 2021 and now the IWSC...
