Ookubo Shuzo was founded in 1893. The company is known throughout the country for the good quality of its imo (sweet potato). Ookubo Shuzo is a small business, with just 12 people taking care of everything from growing, harvesting and processing the imos to producing the shochu. All work steps are carried out by hand, more craft is not possible!

Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition: These shochus were awarded "Superior Gold"

The results of the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) for the Shochu category have been announced. A total of 255 shochus were entered into the competition, 17 of which received the "Superior Gold" award, and 3 of which are available from us.

New from us and perfect for the current cherry blossom season: the DEN-EN Gold Sakura Cask Shochu! This is a barley shochu (mugi shochu) that has been aged in sakura casks for over three years. This gives it a subtle floral aroma, a light scent of cherry blossoms and an exciting complexity.

14 new products in our store: From A for Awamori to V for Vodka

You can now find 14 new products in our store. We are delighted to present a new barrel-aged gin, a new vodka, a coriander herbal spirit, two awamoris, two new umeshus, a black tea liqueur and six new shochus. Our shochu selection thus grows to 33 shochus made from 12 different raw materials!

Ginza Sakura Bash: Three great signature drinks with Dover Sakura liqueur

The cherry blossom season is slowly beginning in Japan. Unfortunately, it is not possible to travel to Japan for Hanami, nor can the cherry blossom festivals take place here. So that you can bring the cherry blossom season to your home, four bartenders have created delicious signature drinks with our Dover Sakura liqueur. The results are sophisticated cocktails that are still easy for you to mix at home.

Craft Spirits Awards: Japanese gin, Umeshu and Shochu receive awards

Unfortunately, the Craft Spirits Berlin trade fair could not take place this year, but the Craft Spirits Awards 2021 could. Five shochus from our range received one of the coveted awards, with a total of 1x silver, 4x bronze and 1x "Best In Class". The JIN7 Series 00 also won silver, as did the Kaga Umeshu.

New products in our store: Sake, Shochu & Liqueurs

Our new delivery has arrived, with five new products on board. Yuzu Rocks, Lemon Rocks, the Jin Junmai and two Shochus, the Daiyame and the Nayuta No Toki, have made it into our range. Find out all about the new treasures from Japan here. 

Two new gins now available: JIN7 Series 01 & Tan Taka Tan

Two new gins are now available from us: JIN7 Series 01, the second gin from Oyama Jishichi Shoten, and Tan Taka Tan Gin from Hokkaido by Oenon. Both gins are extremely exciting and very well-balanced.

Japan Market Berlin at Festsaal Kreuzberg

Due to Covid-19, events have unfortunately been prohibited in recent months. This is now gradually easing a little, so that the Japanmarkt Berlin will take place in the Festsaal Kreuzberg on 16.08.2020 according to the current status. You can expect a colorful program of culture, art and culinary delights.

Two new Shochus in our store

 We have two new shochus from Ochiai Shuzojyo from Miyazaki in our range, both of which are very unusual. These are the Kagamizu Ginger Shochu and the Pimento Shochu made from green peppers. Producer Ryohei Ochiai is one of the most creative people in his industry.

Shochu tasting at the Goldfisch Bar

Our next Shochu tasting will take place on Saturday, June 20th in the Goldfisch Bar. Of course, only in strict compliance with the hygiene regulations.
