Drinking to do good: Protecting endangered coral reefs on Okinawa with the 35 Coffee liqueur

Doing good while drinking? Oh yes, with the 35 Coffee Awamori Sango Liqueur. 3.5% of the proceeds are used to protect the endangered coral reefs on Okinawa. The producer of this special liqueur is the 35 Coffee Company, a small chain of coffee houses on Okinawa. The company takes a very special approach to roasting the coffee: the coffee beans are roasted at up to 200° Celsius over weathered coral. This is similar to a stone roasting method and produces a particularly smooth and mild, yet aromatic coffee.

No artificial flavorings or sugar are added to the 35 Coffee Sango liqueur. This is the reason why this liqueur is so surprising from the very first sip, as coffee liqueurs are normally very sweet. But not the Sango liqueur. In addition, the alcoholic base, the awamori, provides deep flavors with a nice portion of umami.

This liqueur is a dream for cocktails, but also for drinking straight or as a refinement for desserts.
