Legitimate day drinking: it's aperitivo time!
Jun 17, 2022
Temperatures are soaring, it's summertime and we're craving refreshment! Our European neighbors have been showing us how it's done for decades, and fortunately, day drinking has become increasingly popular and socially acceptable here too in recent years. At least if you disguise it as an aperitif, which usually has a lower alcohol content (keyword: low ABV) and is often served with a few small snacks. Lately, you get the impression that pretty much every restaurant in Germany, whether small, large, traditional or hip, has an aperitivo menu on the tables and invites you to enjoy a light drink.
Today we present a few Japanese-style aperitivo ideas. What they all have in common is that they are really light and have a low alcohol content. Perfect for warm days.
Yuzu Spritz
A spritz is always extremely refreshing and quick to prepare. It is always based on white wine or Prosecco, mineral water and a spirit or liqueur. In the case of the Yuzu Spritz, our Yuzu Rocks liqueur is used.
You will need:
- 2.5 cl Yuzu Rocks liqueur
- 15 cl sparkling wine
- 1 small dash of mineral water
Imo Mule
A mule belongs to the category of highballs, which always consist of a base spirit and a carbonated filler. Another ingredient can be added as an option.
For the Imo Mule, sweet potato shochu is paired with ginger beer.
You will need:
- 3 cl Shiranami Genshu Shochu 🍠
- 13 cl Ginger Beer
Sesame tonic
In most cases, shochu is already low ABV by itself, as shochu is usually bottled at 25% vol. It is therefore very easy to conjure up a delicious aperitivo with shochu, as here with the sesame tonic.
You will need:
- 3 cl Beniotome 101 Shochu
- 12 cl tonic
Daiyame Wild Berry
The classic, Lillet Wild Berry, in a version with Daiyame Shochu.
You will need:
- 3 cl Daiyame Shochu
- 12 cl Wild Berry
- Some frozen berries
