Not only sesame lovers will enjoy this shochu: Beniotome 101 is made with white sesame and is wonderfully smooth. This is due to its long-term storage in steel tanks. The sesame note is subtle, but still very intense. This shochu is convincing in many situations, be it in food pairing, in cocktails or simply on its own.

Manufacturer Beniotome is based in the city of Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyūshū. The world's first distillate made from sesame was produced here in 1978. The inventor of sesame shochu was the then 65-year-old Haruno Hayashida, who, as the wife of a sake brewer, actually had nothing to do with the production of shochu. After many attempts, she finally succeeded in creating the intense and complex taste of a sesame shochu (goma shochu) and became a pioneer in this field. Beniotome's shochus are still the only sesame distillates in the world today. If you have the opportunity to visit Fukuoka during your trip to Japan, we highly recommend the "Beniotome Lab" in Hakata, where you can sample almost all of the company's shochus and also enjoy delicious snacks.

Beniotome 101 is a very special product, as it is the evolution and confident work based on the technology and experience of the company's previous sesame shochu range. The combination of over 20% white sesame, barley and white rice koji, and over three years of ageing in steel tanks, make the taste of Beniotome 101 so unique, complex and exciting. At 25% vol, it is very light and pleasant to drink and fits in perfectly with the low-ABV trend and more conscious drinking. Thanks to the fine sesame note, this shochu goes particularly well with food, such as grilled or fried fish, roasted meat, but also with spicy dishes and sweet desserts.

Beniotome's sesame shochu has won many awards, including the Best Gold Award at the Monde Selection 2009. The iTQi (International Taste and Quality Institute) has been recognizing Beniotome shochus for their consistently high quality for many years. At the Craft Spirits Awards 2021 in Berlin, the Beniotome 101 won bronze in the Shochu category.

Beniotome 101 can be enjoyed straight or on the rocks, but can also be extended with soda. Its intense sesame note makes it an exciting ingredient for cocktails.
