Two new gins now available: JIN7 Series 01 & Tan Taka Tan
Jul 10, 2020
Two new gins are now available from us: JIN7 Series 01, the second gin from Oyama, and Tan Taka Tan Gin from Hokkaido by Oenon.
The base of the JIN7 Series 01 is shochu with black koji. This provides a special depth through a fine umami taste. The main botanical is Hetsuka Daidai, a special and rare type of bitter orange that is only native to Kagoshima Prefecture. Compared to the conventional daidai, the Hetsuka daidai is much smaller and juicier. The peel is thinner and smoother and has a unique fragrance, similar to a lime. It is only harvested once a year. It is a rare fruit, accounting for less than 4% of the total Daidai population in Japan. The 6 botanicals used in addition to the Hetsuka Daidai are juniper berry, chirancha (green tea from Minamikyushu / Kagoshima), rosemary, rose geranium and aomomiji (green Japanese maple). JIN7 Series 01 has intense citrus notes that harmonize particularly elegantly with the bitters of the green tea. The gin is only produced once a year in a small batch of 3,500 to 4,000 bottles.
Tan Taka Tan Gin
Tan Taka Tan is a household name in Japan. Made with red shiso (perilla) from the city of Shiranukacho on Hokkaido, Tan Taka Tan Shiso Shochu has absolute cult status in Japan. Producer Oenon Holdings is now building on this success with Tan Taka Tan Gin, which is based on the famous shiso shochu of the same name. In addition to red shiso, a further 5 botanicals are used, including orange peel and angelica root. Tan Taka Tan Gin is extremely refreshing and special and a great gin in almost any situation! The shiso flavor is used very subtly and intelligently. Tan Taka Tan Gin is ideal as an extremely refreshing gin and tonic (preferably with an Indian tonic), but also great for cocktails or on its own as an accompaniment to a meal. Try this gin as a gin sonic (gin+soda).
