Fruity, sparkling, fresh, and colorful: the Japanese version of summer punch
July 15, 2026
If you immediately think of white wine, strawberries, and summer parties when you hear the word “punch,” you’re not alone. But have you ever tried a punch made with Japanese sake? While it’s still a real hidden gem here, it’s been a favorite in Japan for a long time. Sake has everything a good summer punch needs: delicate fruit flavors, elegant freshness, and—depending on the variety—a pleasant lightness or a subtle effervescence. Combined with fresh fruit, it creates drinks that taste surprisingly sophisticated yet are wonderfully uncomplicated.
MIO Sparkling Sake is the perfect choice for sparkling fruit punch. Its subtle sweetness and notes of pear, melon, and grapes pair beautifully with peaches, berries, or citrus fruits, turning any fruit punch into a true summer highlight. If you prefer something a bit drier, you should definitely try our Bekkaku Tokubetsu Honjozo Sake. With its elegant freshness and delicate rice aromas, it’s exceptional—especially when paired with apples, pears, or cucumber—resulting in aromatic punch drinks that are perfect for barbecue evenings, sushi, or a relaxing afternoon on the patio.
The best part? For our recipes, you need little more than a bottle of sake, fresh fruit, and some mineral water or soda. It’s that easy to bring a taste of Japan to your summer drink. Today, we’re sharing five punch recipes that prove: sake can be enjoyed in so many ways beyond drinking it straight. Each recipe makes 6–8 glasses.
