Ice Age - Drink your Shochu Oyuwari

It's freezing cold outside, but there's a simple recipe to combat the cold: drink your shochu oyuwari, in other words, extended with hot water! The oyuwari drinking method is particularly popular in Kagoshima. This is because Kagoshima is the stronghold of sweet potato shochu and this category is particularly suitable for drinking extended with hot water. This brings out the flavors of the sweet potato very intensely.
Incidentally, "oyu" means hot water and "wari" means split or divided.

How to prepare your shochu oyuwari

To enjoy your shochu oyuwari, first pour the hot water into a heat-resistant glass or ceramic container. Then add approximately the same amount of shochu. This sequence stirs the drink naturally and releases the aromas of the shochu. The water should be at a temperature of around 70°C. As the taste of each shochu reacts slightly differently to the hot water, you can experiment with the temperature. However, because alcohol boils at 78°C, the shochu should definitely not come into contact with hot water.
Cheers!
