Hot through the winter with Scandinavian glögg

This Scandinavian mulled wine has it all: also known as Swedish punch or Finnish mulled wine, this hot drink has a few more revolutions than our popular mulled wine. However, it tastes really fantastic and is definitely worth trying.

Glögg differs from mulled wine in that it is spiced with ginger and cardamom, contains significantly more alcohol and is much sweeter. Glögg is popular in all Scandinavian countries in the run-up to Christmas.

Ingredients:

- 1 bottle of dry red wine

- 100 grams of sugar

- Lemon peel

- 3 cloves

- 2 tsp cardamom powder (or 6 capsules)

- 1 small piece of ginger

- 1 cinnamon stick

- 80 grams raisins

- 50 grams almond slivers

- 100 milliliters of rum or vodka (e.g. Seven Seas Japanese Rum or Okuhida Vodka)

Preparation:

Pour the red wine into a pan and season with the cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger and cardamom. Heat the liquid with the addition of sugar, do not boil so that the alcohol does not evaporate. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

To allow the aroma of the spices to develop, leave the glögg to infuse overnight. Before serving, add rum or vodka and warm the glögg briefly. Pour the raisins and almond slivers into a glass, then pour over the finished punch.
