A great gin from southern Japan! JIN7 Series 01 uses just six botanicals. In addition to the bitter orange variety Hetsuka Daidai, there are subtle notes of green tea and Japanese maple. JIN7 Series 01 has intense citrus notes. A delicate herbal aroma with pleasant bitter notes rounds out the flavor. It is bottled at 47% ABV and is very mild.

The producer of JIN7 is Oyama Jinshichi Shoten in Ibusuki in Kagoshima Prefecture. The small distillery has been producing the finest imo (sweet potato) shochu since 1875. The alcoholic base of JIN7 Series 01 is imo shochu with black koji, which provides interesting umami notes. The main botanical, Hetsuka Dadai, is a very special and rare type of bitter orange that is only native to Kagoshima Prefecture. Compared to conventional daidai, Hetsuka daidai is much smaller and juicier. The peel is thinner and smoother and has a unique fragrance, similar to a lime. It is only harvested once a year. It is a rare fruit, accounting for less than 4% of the total Daidai population in Japan. The 6 botanicals used in JIN7 Series 01 are: Hetsuka Daidai, juniper berry, chirancha (green tea from Minamikyushu, Kagoshima), rosemary, rose geranium as well as aomomiji (green Japanese maple).

The JIN7 Series 01 has a good balance between citrus and herbal notes, while the use of green tea also gives the gin a subtle bitterness.

The bottle design of JIN7 is particularly elegant. While the neck of the bottle is decorated with wax and looks like a candle, a clothing label with the botanicals can be found on the bottle label. In order to found the distillery, Oyama Shoten sold his kimono business in 1875 in order to have the financial means to build the distillery. The label is a constant reminder of the company's roots.

About the manufacturer

Oyama Jinshichi Shoten was founded in 1875 in Miyagahama, Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture. Since then, the company has been producing the finest sweet potato shochus (imo). It is a small distillery that produces true craft products. Since 2019, the production facility has also been producing gin. The botanicals for this come from Japan's oldest herb garden "Kaimon Sanroku". Before 1875, the family owned a kimono store in addition to the distillery. This is why the labels on the JIN7 bottles feature clothing labels. With this, the producers always want to remember the family's historical roots.

In 2021, the management of the company was transferred to the then 30-year-old son Youhei Oyama, which is very rare in Japan at this young age. He is one of a group of young and extremely talented producers who break new ground and are keen to experiment. For example, Youhei-san produced the first rum from Kagoshima's mainland and also launched a craft cola shochu on the market.
