Hassaku Rocks from SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery is a top-class citrus liqueur. Botanically speaking, Hassaku is a cross between a grapefruit (Citrus Maxima) and a satsuma mandarin (Citrus Unshiu) and is grown exclusively in Japan. It tastes fresh, sweet and sour at the same time. This liqueur is completely natural and contains no acidulants or artificial flavorings. Hassaku Rocks is also a fantastic ingredient for unusual cocktails.

The birthplace of the Hassaku fruit is Hiroshima, and this is also where the SAKURAO Brewery has its distillery. The company also produces its famous Sakurao gin there. The Hassaku fruit originated in 1860 as an accidental hybrid. A unique and patented double-scented method is used in the production of Hassaku Rocks. The natural Hassaku aroma oil is extracted from Hassaku peels using steam distillation. The juice content of the liqueur is up to 70%. At the same time, no acidifiers or flavorings are added. The most distinctive feature of Hassaku Rocks is its special bitter-sweet taste and extremely refreshing aroma. At 16% vol., this liqueur is pleasantly mild and light.

Hassaku Rocks tastes great neat and on the rocks, but can also be used very well as an ingredient or base for unusual cocktails. Also perfect as a long drink with tonic, soda, cola, Calpico or ginger ale. Once opened, please store Hassaku Rocks in the fridge and consume within 3 months. Shake well before use.

About the manufacturer

The SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery was founded under the name Chugoku Jozo in 1918 in the Sakurao district of Hatsukaichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture. Initially a producer of shochu and sake, the company has been producing the famous Togouchi whisky since 1990, for which the distillates are imported from Scotland and Canada. Only the storage and blending were taken over by the SAKURAO Brewery. However, the company has been producing "Togouchi Single Malt Whisky" itself for some years now. The spirits are stored in a very special place: the city's 361-metre-long railroad tunnel, which has never been completed, is used to store the fine spirits. The temperature here is 14 degrees Celsius all year round and the humidity is 80%, ideal conditions for maturing shochu and whisky. The second production facility, the Sakurao Distillery, was founded in 2017. The first product was Sakurao Gin Original, followed shortly afterwards by special editions of this gin range. In 2018, the company launched its liqueur series with "Hassaku Rocks", "Yuzu Rocks" and "Lemon Rocks". 2021 saw the launch of the first single malt whisky. In 2021, the company also changed its name to SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co. Ltd.
