Absolutely unique and a great symbiosis of sweetness, acidity, fruit and sesame! Beniotome Umeshu combines the fruity elegance of fully ripe ume with the depth of sesame shochu - an unusual, masterfully successful combination. It is made exclusively with kojiro ume, a rare variety also known as "blue diamond". These fruits are rich in aroma and provide an intense taste experience. While the alcohol content of most umeshus is 8-15% by volume, Beniotome takes a different approach and bottles its umeshu at 18% to emphasize the unique character of this drink. This ensures a full body and an intense finish.

Beniotome Umeshu is the only Honkaku Umeshu based on a sesame distillate. Umeshu is probably one of Japan's most traditional alcoholic specialties. Each family has its own secret recipe for it. Ume is often referred to as a plum, but botanically it is a type of apricot. Only Kojiro ume is used for the Beniotome Umeshu. This rare variety is slowly pickled in fragrant sesame shochu. The result is uniquely complex, the texture almost silky.
The Beniotome Umeshu impresses with its deep golden color and a beguiling aroma of ripe fruit, roasted sesame and a hint of marzipan. On the palate, it develops a balance between sweet fruitiness, subtle acidity and the warm, slightly earthy depth of the sesame shochu. It is full-bodied, but not heavy - with a long, velvety finish that delights connoisseurs and novices alike.
This umeshu is an ideal aperitif and digestif and can be enjoyed neat, on ice or with soda. The Beniotome Umeshu also works very well in cocktails.

The whole area is blessed with extremely fertile fields. The Beniotome distillery is located at the foot of Mount Mino. In addition to eight storerooms where the shochu is fermented and stored, there is also a guest house where the spirit can be tasted. Beniotome is known throughout the country for its Goma Shochu, yet it is a small operation and the Sesame Shochus is 100 percent Craft Spirits.
