Makugan 40 Rum is a fresh, white rum that is produced with great care in small quantities in a craft distillery on Okinawa. It has an intense sugar cane aroma on the palate and reveals flavors of pear, mandarin and passion fruit. A mild rum that is suitable for cocktails, but also for drinking neat.
Description
Makugan 40 rum is produced by Taragawa Shuzo on the beautiful island of Miyakojima in Okinawa. The product name "Makugan" means coconut crab in the Okinawan Miyakojima dialect. It is found exclusively on Miyakojima and has been threatened with extinction in recent years. To draw attention to this fate, Taragawa Shuzo has integrated the coconut crab into the bottle design.
Makugan rum is made exclusively from raw materials sourced from Miyakojima. Miyakojima is an island formed by towering coral reefs.
As a result, rainwater is naturally filtered through the highly permeable Ryukyu limestone, resulting in hard water that is rich in minerals.
This water forms the core of this special distillate.
Makugan 40 Rum is characterized by a fruity taste of pear, mandarin and passion fruit. This is paired with an intense sugar cane flavor. It is ideal as a base for fine cocktails, but can also be enjoyed on its own.

About Taragawa Shuzo
Taragawa Shuzo was founded in 1945 on Miyakojima, a beautiful island in Okinawa Prefecture. Since then, the distillery has been producing the finest awamori, adhering to traditional techniques, yet moving with the times to develop new products and integrate modernity into tradition. The island, made up of coral reefs, is lush and green all year round. Due to the high permeability of the Ryukyu limestone, rainwater is naturally filtered and becomes hard water containing many minerals. This water forms the core of production, which is ideal for the production of awamori and other distillates.
