This shochu has it all: the Beniotome Kuro Sesame Shochu has a particularly intense flavor thanks to the use of roasted black sesame seeds. Black koji is also used, which provides spicy and earthy flavors. A taste experience that not only lingers on the tongue, but also in the mind.

Manufacturer Beniotome is based in the city of Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyūshū. The world's first distillate made from sesame was produced here in 1978. The inventor of sesame shochu was the then 65-year-old Haruno Hayashida, who, as the wife of a sake brewer, actually had nothing to do with the production of shochu. After many attempts, she finally succeeded in creating the intense and complex taste of a sesame shochu and became a pioneer in this field. Beniotome's shochus are still the only sesame distillates in the world today. If you have the opportunity to visit Fukuoka during your trip to Japan, we highly recommend the "Beniotome Lab" in Hakata, where you can sample almost all of the company's shochus and also enjoy delicious snacks.

The combination of black roasted sesame, barley and black rice koji, and the three-year storage period in steel tanks, make the taste of Beniotome Kuro so balanced, intense, complex and exciting. At 25% vol., it is very light and pleasant to drink and perfectly meets the low-ABV trend of more conscious drinking. Thanks to the fine sesame note, this shochu goes particularly well with food, such as grilled or fried fish, roasted meat, but also with spicy dishes and strong desserts.

Beniotome's sesame shochu has won many awards, including the Best Gold Award at the Monde Selection 2009. For many years, the iTQi (International Taste and Quality Institute) has recognized Beniotome shochus for their consistently high quality. At the Craft Spirits Awards 2021 in Berlin, Beniotome Kuro received the Silver Medal and the "Best In Class" award in the Shochu category.

Beniotome Kuro can be enjoyed straight or on the rocks, but can also be extended with soda. Its strong note makes it the ideal ingredient for cocktails.
