This shochu has it all: the Beniotome Kuro Sesame Shochu has a particularly intense flavour thanks to the use of black sesame. More than 20 percent sesame meets the second basic ingredient barley. Black koji is also used, which provides spicy and earthy flavours. A taste experience that not only stays on the tongue for a long time, but also in the mind.

Description

The Beniotome Kuro Sesame Shochu (Goma Shochu) is a very special Shochu, because the Shochus of Beniotome are the world's first distillates from sesame. It is produced in the city of Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture in Kyūshū. The recipe for this spirit was developed in 1978 by 65-year-old Haruno Hayashida, who, as the wife of a sake brewer, had actually had nothing to do with the production of shochu before. After many attempts, she finally succeeded in creating the intense and complex taste of a sesame shochu and became a pioneer in this field. The combination of black sesame, barley as well as black rice koji, as well as three years of storage in steel tanks, make the taste of Beniotome Kuro so balanced, intense and exciting. With its 25% vol. it is very light and pleasant to drink. Due to the fine sesame note, this Shochu goes particularly well with food, such as grilled or fried fish, roasted meat, but also with spicy dishes and strong desserts.

Beniotome's sesame shochus have won many awards, such as the Best Gold Award at the Monde Selection 2009. For many years, the iTQi (International Taste and Quality Institute) has awarded Beniotome Shochus for their consistently good quality. At the Craft Spirits Awards 2021 in Berlin, the Beniotome Kuro received the Silver Medal and the award "Best In Class" in the Shochu category.

The Beniotome Kuro can be enjoyed straight or on the rocks, but also extended with soda. Due to its strong note it is the ideal ingredient for cocktails.
