The name says it all: Yuzu Rocks is a unique citrus liqueur. Yuzu is a popular Asian citrus fruit that has a great aroma. Yuzu is also becoming increasingly popular here in top restaurants, as well as in home cooking. Yuzu Rocks is made from 100% Japanese yuzu. This liqueur contains no acidulants or artificial flavorings. Yuzu Rocks is also an ideal enhancer for cocktails.

The yuzu probably found its way to Japan via China. It looks like a lemon, but much larger, as it can reach the size of an orange. However, the yuzu provides much less juice than a lemon. The flesh is sour and aromatic, slightly bitter and juicy. Another difference between yuzu and lemon is the aroma, which is much more complex and intense with yuzu, but not as sour as with a lemon.

The producer of Yuzu Rocks liqueur is SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery, based in Hirsoshima Prefecture. The company also produces its famous Sakurao gin there. The liqueur is made from 100% Japanese yuzu, from which both yuzu juice and yuzu flavored oil are extracted. A unique and patented double-scented method is used in the production of Yuzu Rocks. The natural yuzu aroma oil is extracted from yuzu peels using steam distillation. The content of pure yuzu juice is over 15%, which corresponds to around five yuzu fruits. At the same time, no acidifiers or flavorings are added. The most distinctive feature of Yuzu Rocks is its bitter-sour taste and extremely refreshing aroma. At 16% vol., this liqueur is pleasantly mild and light.

Yuzu Rocks tastes great neat and on the rocks, but can also be used very well as an ingredient or base for great cocktails. Also perfect as a long drink with tonic, soda, cola, Calpico or ginger ale. Once opened, please store in the fridge and consume within 5 months. Please shake well before use.

About the manufacturer

The SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery was founded under the name Chugoku Jozo in 1918 in the Sakurao district of Hatsukaichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture. Initially a producer of shochu and sake, the company has been producing the famous Togouchi whisky since 1990, for which the distillates are imported from Scotland and Canada. Only the storage and blending are carried out by the SAKURAO Brewery. However, storage takes place in a very special place: the city's 361-metre-long railroad tunnel, which has never been completed, is used to store the fine spirits. The temperature here is 14 degrees Celsius all year round and the humidity is 80%, ideal conditions for maturing shochu and whisky.

Since December 2017, the company has been involved in the production of Western craft spirits following the establishment of another production facility, the Sakurao Distillery. The first spirit is the Sakurao Gin Original, followed shortly afterwards by special editions of this gin series, the Sakurao Gin Limited and the Sakurao Gin Hamagou, both in small quantities. The hundred years of experience in the production of spirits is certainly one reason why Sakurao Gin tastes so fantastic. In 2018, the company then released its natural liqueur series with "Hassaku Rocks", "Yuzu Rocks" and "Lemon Rocks". The company's first single malt whisky has been available since 2021. In March 2021, the company changed its name to SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co. Ltd.
