A fine herbal aroma with pleasant bitter notes rounds off the taste. It is bottled at 47% vol. and is very mild.

Description

The producer of JIN7 is Oyama Jinshichi Shoten in Ibusuki in the extreme south of Kyushu. The small distillery has been producing the finest Imo (sweet potato) Shochus since 1875, which form the basis for the recently produced JIN7. Compared to the JIN7 Series 00, the JIN7 Series 01 uses Imo Shochu with black koji, which brings out interesting umami notes. The main botanical is Hetsuka Dadai, a special and rare type of bitter orange that is only native to Kagoshima Prefecture. Compared to the traditional Daidai, the Hetsuka Daidai is much smaller and juicier. The peel is thinner and smoother and has a unique fragrance, similar to a lime. It is harvested only once a year. It is a rare fruit, accounting for less than 4% of the total Daidai population in Japan. The total of 6 botanicals used are: Hetsuka Daidai, juniper berry, Chirancha (green tea from Minamikyushu / Kagoshima), rosemary, rose geranium as well as Aomomiji (green Japanese maple).

The JIN7 Series 01 has a good balance of citrus and herbal notes, and the use of green tea also adds a fine bitter taste to gin.

The bottle design of the JIN7 is particularly elegant. While the neck of the bottle is decorated with wax and looks like a candle, the bottle label has a clothing label with the botanicals. This is a reminder that Oyama Shoten owned a kimono shop in the 19th century, which they sold to found the distillery.

The JIN7 has an intense, aromatic taste, is mild and pleasant and can be enjoyed either pure or as a gin tonic (recommended: a good Indian Tonic). This gin is also perfect for cocktails, for example a Martini cocktail or a Gimlet.

JIN 7 Series 01 is produced only once a year, and only in a very small batch of 3,500 to 4,000 bottles, because Hestuke Daidai and the herbs from the herb garden are so rare and can only be harvested once a year. Also discover the JIN7 Series 00 and the JIN7 Series 02 Sakura Cask Finish , a fantastic barrel-aged gin.

About Oyama Jinshichi Shoten

Oyama Jinshichi Shoten was founded in 1875 in Miyagahama, Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture. Since then, the company has been producing the finest imo (sweet potato) shochus. It is a small distillery that produces true craft products. Since September 2019, the distillery now also produces gin, the botanicals for which come from Japan's oldest herb garden "Kaimon Sanroku". Before 1875, the family also owned a kimono store in addition to the distillery. That's why there areclothing labels on the labels of the JIN7 bottles. With this, the producers always want to rememberthe historical roots of the family.
