A barrel-aged gin from the house of Oyama Jinchichi Shoten: The JIN7 Series 02 Sakura Cask Finish matures for six months in barrels made from Japanese cherry blossom wood. As a result, JIN7 Series 02 has a subtly floral aroma, a light scent of cherry blossoms and an exciting complexity. The 10 botanicals used in this gin are successfully integrated through the barrel ageing process and are paired with the elegant aroma that only a sakura barrel can offer.

In Japan, the bright pink blossoms of the cherry blossom trees symbolize the arrival of spring, and the sakura season is almost the most important time of year in the Land of the Rising Sun. The cherry blossom is familiar to the Japanese as the most positive time of the year, and its popularity is spreading worldwide.

Oyama Jinchichi Shoten's JIN7 Series 02 is matured in barrels of this unique tree. The total of 10 botanicals used are: Juniper berry, Aomoji (green Japanese maple), cinnamon, green tea, clam ginger, rose geranium, chili pepper, black pepper, rosemary and yuzu. The alcoholic base of this gin is the finest imo shochu (sweet potato) with black koji.

The bottle design of the JIN7 series is very elegant. While the neck of the bottle is decorated with wax and looks like a candle, a clothing label with the botanicals can be found on the bottle label. This is reminiscent of the fact that Oyama Shoten owned a kimono store in the 19th century, which they sold in order to found the distillery.

The JIN7 Series 02 has a good balance between citrus, spicy and herbal notes, while the use of green tea also gives the gin a subtle bitterness. We recommend enjoying this gin neat or on the rocks.

The JIN 7 Series 02 is only produced once a year, and only in a very small batch of 3,500 to 4,000 bottles. This makes it an exciting rarity on the gin market. Also discover the JIN7 Series 00 and the JIN7 Series 01 with us.

About the manufacturer

Oyama Jinshichi Shoten was founded in 1875 in Miyagahama, Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture. Since then, the company has been producing the finest sweet potato shochus (imo). It is a small distillery that produces true craft products. Since 2019, the production facility has also been producing gin. The botanicals for this come from Japan's oldest herb garden "Kaimon Sanroku". Before 1875, the family owned a kimono store in addition to the distillery. This is why the labels on the JIN7 bottles feature clothing labels. With this, the producers always want to remember the family's historical roots.

In 2021, the management of the company was transferred to the then 30-year-old son Youhei Oyama, which is very rare in Japan at this young age. He is one of a group of young and extremely talented producers who break new ground and are keen to experiment. For example, Youhei-san produced the first rum from Kagoshima's mainland and also launched a craft cola shochu on the market.
