This sake will soon reach the recommended aging limit of 2 years from the bottling date (bottling date 06/2024), but it is still in very good condition. It can be enjoyed for about 3 months longer than the recommended 2 years after the bottling date. Please note: For the best taste, it is recommended to consume the bottles as soon as possible, as any potential loss of quality will then be barely noticeable—if at all!

Fresh and beautifully dry: The Saiki Junmai Usu Nigori Sake impresses from the very first sip with its rich rice character and umami. This is paired with a lovely acidity and slightly tart notes. This is an Usu Nigori (slightly cloudy) sake with a creamy texture and a refreshing mouthfeel. This sake must be stored unopened (standing upright) in the refrigerator.

The Saiki Junmai Usu Nigori is less cloudy than most nigori sakes, giving it an extremely pleasant texture. Its dryness makes it very easy to drink, and it tastes very young and fresh.
This nigori sake is an ideal aperitif. It pairs very well with light appetizers, fish, and seafood. It also pairs very well with chocolatey or fruity desserts and pastries.

About the manufacturer

Bungo Meijyo was founded in 1919 as "Kariu Sake Brewery" in Saiki in Oita Prefecture. The prefecture was originally an area where sake production flourished. Initially founded as a sake brewery, the company's focus shifted from sake to shochu due to the big shochu boom in Japan. Particularly during the great barley shochu trend in the 1975s, Bungo Meijyo concentrated on the production of mugi shochu. The barley for the company's shochus is grown entirely in Oita Prefecture. Bungo has a deep connection to agriculture. The water for shochu production comes from the Banjo River in Oita, which is considered one of the clearest rivers in Kyushu. The craftsmanship that has been passed down from generation to generation since the company was founded is essential to shochu production. Bungo Meijyo produces excellent shochus and sake, and is both innovative and traditional.
