The Akashi Red Blended Whisky comes from the White Oak Distillery in Hyogo Prefecture. It is a light and fruity whisky that consists of 30% malt and 70% grain. The Akashi Red matures for two years in ex-shochu casks made from American white oak and in ex-bourbon casks before spending a year in ex-sherry casks. This elegant whisky has full stone fruit and citrus notes and a mild finish with vanilla aromas.

Description

Akashi Red is produced by the Eigashima Distillery, formerly known as White Oak, in the town of Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture. The distillery is located near the Seto Inland Sea and benefits from a climate with large temperature differences between winter and summer, which particularly favors the maturation of the whiskies. About White Oak / Akashi / Eigashima Shuzo

Founded by Eigashima Shuzo, the Eigashima distillery, formerly known as White Oak, was established in Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture in 1984. The distillery is located near the Seto Inland Sea and benefits from a climate with large temperature differences between winter and summer. This favors the maturation of the whiskies.

Eigashima Shuzo is a traditional company that was founded in 1679 as a sake brewery. As a sake brewing region, Hyogo Prefecture is particularly famous for its great water, which is of course also extremely important for the production of whisky. The company has also been producing shochu, umeshu and wine since 1888. In the early 1960s, the distillation of whisky began with seasonal and artisanal production. It was not until 1984 that Eigashima Shuzo decided to dedicate part of the site entirely to whisky production by building a malt distillery inspired by the Scottish model, which was named White Oak. Today, the distillery produces a small artisanal production of high quality, with particular emphasis on the balance of the distillates and the variety of maturation casks.
