Aka Oni Rosso is an exciting creation from Iwate Prefecture that combines tradition and innovation in a delicious way. This aperitif, made on the basis of mirin and sake kasu shochu, is characterized by the use of various herbs and spices. The main flavor component is wormwood herb, which is joined by other botanicals such as kuromoji, rose, ginger, vanilla, kihhada (cork tree bark), sansho and shiso. The harmonious composition of Japanese flavors in combination with Japan's most traditional alcoholic drinks made from rice - mirin and shochu - ensures a balanced taste with depth. Aka Oni is the perfect ingredient for a Japanese Martini!

The Aka Oni Rosso aperitif is produced by the Kanegasaki Distillery and surprises with a fine sweetness that is contrasted by a pleasant bitterness of wormwood and kihada. This combination creates a complex structure and texture. Refreshing and spicy notes of Japanese aromas such as kuromoji, tamushiba (magnolia), shiso and sansho pepper give the liqueur a lively, unmistakable freshness.
The main alcoholic ingredient in Aka Oni Rosso is hon mirin (real mirin). Mirin in particular was known as a luxury item during the Edo period and served as the basis for traditional Japanese medicinal liqueurs. Manufacturer Kanegsaki sees the combination possibilities of mirin and medicinal herbs as limitless and has been developing its own Hon Mirin for two years, which is used as a base for herbal liqueurs.

The Aka Oni Rosso is an experience for all the senses. Its complex, balanced aroma makes it the perfect companion for relaxed evenings, as an aperitif, for special occasions or creative mix ideas for unusual or classic cocktails such as a Sweet Martini.

About the manufacturer

Kanegasaki Distillery was founded in 2021 in the nature-rich town of Kanegasaki in Iwate Prefecture. The company specializes in the production of Japanese herbal liqueurs that focus on the traditional flavours of the country. The focus is consistently on sustainability: fruit and vegetables grown in the prefecture that would be thrown away elsewhere are given a new purpose here.
Founder and CEO Kazuma Oikawa discovered his passion for herbal liqueurs while working as a bartender in Tokyo, where he got to know spirits from all over the world. He was fascinated by the world of flavors that herbal liqueurs offer and decided to start his own distillery one day. Today, his expertise flows into the development of his products, which reflect both the character of Japanese plants and international trends.
Around 50 different types of herbs grow on the company's own "KSP Medicinal Herb Farm", which are processed into high-quality liqueurs in combination with regional fruits. Popular products include WAKA liqueurs with Japanese flavors such as shiso, ume, sansho and yuzu, which highlight the diversity of roots and medicinal herbs.
With the aim of making Kanegasaki the home of Japanese herbal liqueurs and establishing the brand worldwide, the Kanegasaki Distillery stands for quality, innovation and the responsible use of resources. The company will soon be moving to new premises. The local kindergarten in Kanegasaki, which has been empty for some time due to the decline in the birth rate, is currently being converted into a distillery and will be put into operation at the end of 2025.
