Discover with us: Delicacies from Oita Prefecture

Oita Prefecture is located in the north-east of Kyushu and is known for its beautiful landscapes and hot springs as well as its high-quality products. Oita is one of the shochu strongholds, with many distilleries producing the finest mugi-shochu (barley shochu). Oita is also Japan's largest cultivation area for the great citrus fruit kabosu. The juice of the kabosu is used as a liqueur and also served with a variety of dishes such as grilled fish, sashimi and hot pot.

We present three of our products from Oita Prefecture here.

iichiko Person Shochu

Crystal clear, beautiful and simply delicious: iichiko Person Shochu is a very special and extremely light shochu that comes in at 25% vol. Made from barley (mugi), it is an ideal companion, whether before, during or after a meal. The iichiko Person has an excellent and fruity aroma that comes from the white koji. It is made from 50 percent polished barley grains, and barley is also used for fermentation. This is rare, as rice is usually inoculated with koji during shochu production. The finish has slightly sweet notes with subtle vanilla, which comes from the barrel in which the person is stored for six months after production.

Ubugoe Shochu
