Ten Sho Chu is a very special sweet potato shochu (Imo Shochu) because the yeast and koji for this shochu were grown in zero gravity on a NASA space shuttle. It is also the first product created with Atsuhime yeast. This special yeast, which is extracted from the earth, gives the shochu a particularly airy taste. It has a slight sweetness and a fantastic complexity. By the way, "Ten Sho Chu" means space shochu and is also an amusing play on words in relation to shochu. This great craft spirit is normally only available in liquor shops in Kagoshima Prefecture. And now also with us!

Description

The producer of Ten Sho Chu is Oyama Jinchichi Shooten in Ibusuki. To obtain the special Atsuhime yeast, the shochu producer collaborated with the Faculty of Agriculture of Kagoshima University, Shochu Studies Department. The yeast was extracted from the earth and Ten Sho Chu was the first ever shochu produced using yeast extracted from the earth. The Atsuhime yeast and koji were sent into space on a space shuttle for 16 days and then returned to be processed into Ten Sho Chu.

Ten Sho Chu has a special lightness and mildness. It is particularly aromatic and complex, but at the same time extremely refreshing and floral. It has an elegant sweetness from the sweet potatoes. The finish is long with a pleasant spiciness. It is made with white koji.

This shochu can be enjoyed straight or on the rocks. We also recommend drinking it oyuwari, i.e. with hot water, as this allows the flavour of the imo to develop very well. In food pairings, Ten Sho Chu goes very well with white fish and meat, vegetables, but also with chocolaty desserts. The bright blue bottle is an absolute eye-catcher in every (home) bar.

About Oyama Jinshichi Shoten

Oyama Jinshichi Shoten was founded in 1875 in Miyagahama, Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture. Since then, the company has been producing the finest imo (sweet potato) shochus. It is a small distillery that produces true craft products. Since September 2019, the distillery now also produces gin, the botanicals for which come from Japan's oldest herb garden "Kaimon Sanroku". Before 1875, the family also owned a kimono store in addition to the distillery. That's why there areclothing labels on the labels of the JIN7 bottles. With this, the producers always want to rememberthe historical roots of the family.
