Description
Crazy Octopus Chili-Shochu was developed by Yamaya Distillery in Miyazaki Prefecture in cooperation with the famous Japanese Takoyaki chain Gindaco. Takoyaki are the wildly popular octopus balls that originated in Osaka, and Gindaco is probably their most famous producer. The Crazy Octopus is specially designed for food pairing for Takoyaki, but generally goes very well with intense dishes with lots of sauce.
In the production of Crazy Octopus, classic Honkaku Imo Shochu (sweet potato) is enriched with red chili peppers and macerated. Although the spiciness is in the foreground of the drinking experience, with 25% vol the Crazy Octopus is still very soft and pleasant to drink. On ice, with soda or for exciting cocktails, this chili shochu is just fun in a glass.
At the IWSC 2023 in London, Crazy Octopus won the silver medal. The rating: "A nose of dried red chilli peppers, smoked paprika and capsicum. The palate has enchanting cooked fruits and displays a chilli character masterfully. Superb balance."

About Yamaya Distillery
Yamaya Distillery is a small distillery located in the city of Saito in Miyazaki Prefecture. It was founded in 1956 under the name of Masaharu Shuzo. The company has been producing the finest honkaku shochus and liqueurs here ever since. Just 12 employees take care of everything from production to distribution. In 2022, the distillery renamed itself Yamaya Distillery. The area around the warehouse is blessed with particularly pure and mineral-rich water, which makes their shochus especially smooth and mild.
