Bekkaku—“The Special One”—is a delicious Tokubetsu Honjozo from Kakuboshi. This premium sake captivates with its elegant balance of sweetness and acidity and its wonderful freshness. A wonderful all-rounder that everyone will love! This sake can be enjoyed both warm and cold. By the way, the Tokubetsu Bekkaku is the base sake for our popular Kinmon Kesennuma Yuzu Sake, which is, of course, also produced by Kakuboshi.

Bekkaku - "The Special One" - is produced by Kakuboshi in the city of Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. The brewery has won many awards for its sake. The nose is slightly nutty, with very light notes of pear at the beginning. The finish is short with lots of freshness. This sake goes well with Caesar's salad, fish & chips and tempura.

Nose: Nutty, slightly smoky, like cereals.

Taste: Very gentle pear, slight sweetness-acidity interplay, little umami.

Character: Light body, short finish, great freshness, little astringency.

About the manufacturer

Kakuboshi was founded in 1908 in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. The brewery was hit extremely hard by several strokes of fate: after a major fire in 1929, the buildings were completely destroyed. The following year, the family rebuilt the company headquarters on the same site. Sake Kura has been a registered tangible cultural asset of Japan since 2003. During the devastating earthquake in 2011, the first floor of the building was washed away and the second floor was severely damaged. The brewery was completely rebuilt in a former school in May 2016 and now boasts state-of-the-art techniques that go hand in hand with the long tradition and experience of sake brewing. Sake from Kakusboshi has won many awards and is considered to be particularly light and fresh. The aroma is not too strong and goes particularly well with seafood, the culinary flagship of Miyagi Prefecture. Kakuboshi is a small company with 30 employees, half of whom work in production.
