A superb gin from Okinawa: Miyako Gin captivates with its citrusy and spicy aromas. Its base spirit is awamori, which lends it a complex and intense depth. Six botanicals, including black pepper, lemon peel, and Okinawan kokuto (also known as kurosato), create an exciting bouquet. Miyako Gin is a stylish tribute to the island of Miyakojima and its unique resources. Crafted with mineral-rich Miyako water and carefully selected local ingredients, it embodies the Taragawa distillery’s uncompromising philosophy of quality and the essence of Japanese craftsmanship.

The six botanicals are precisely balanced and give the gin a clear structure: juniper is distinctly noticeable on the palate and is perfectly complemented by cardamom in the aroma. Black pepper and lemon zest bring freshness and vibrancy to the glass. A hint of Okinawan brown sugar provides balance and skillfully ties the botanicals together. The finish is long and characterized by a lingering spiciness accompanied by a pleasant freshness.
Miyako Gin is great in a gin and tonic—we recommend a neutral tonic (dry or Indian tonic). In Japan, it is most commonly enjoyed mixed with soda. This gin is also fantastic for gin cocktail creations.

About the manufacturer

Taragawa Shuzo was founded in 1945 on Miyakojima, a beautiful island in Okinawa Prefecture. Since then, the distillery has been producing the finest awamori, adhering to traditional techniques, yet moving with the times to develop new products and integrate modernity into tradition. The island, made up of coral reefs, is lush and green all year round. Due to the high permeability of the Ryukyu limestone, rainwater is naturally filtered and becomes hard water containing many minerals. This water forms the core of production, which is ideal for the production of awamori and other distillates.
