The Kanomori Craft Gin from Yomeishu is an absolute firework of taste. Not for nothing Kanomori means "forest of aromas". Among the botanicals there are extraordinary representatives, such as Kuromoji (fever bush), a laurel plant, which is often used in Japan to extract essential oils. Other botanicals of this fantastic gin include lemon peel, blackberry twig, rosemary, sage, liquorice, goji berry and mulberry. The producer Yomeishu has been known for centuries for its herbal liqueur, which may only be sold in pharmacies.

The distillers of Yomeishu have their distillery in Komagane in Nagano Prefecture, in the middle of the Japanese Alps, and only five kilometres from Hombo Shuzo's famous Mars Shinshu Distillery. The Japanese Alps can also be found on the bottle label of Kanomori Gin: the cut label shows the mountain line of the Central Alps. But the bottle is also an absolute eye-catcher in other respects. The embossed plant is one of the botanicals used, the fever bush Kuromoji, which has long been used in Japan as a traditional medicine.

The other botanicals are juniper, blackberry branch, lemon peel, apricot leaf, mulberry, sickle fir, Sechuan pepper, ginger, liquorice, sage, cardamom, rosemary, bay leaf, orange peel, goji berry, spruce needles, angelica, cinnamon and aniseed.

The Kanomori Craft Gin, despite its 47% vol., is very soft and mild, and is characterized by an intense taste with a long finish. Gentle citrus notes mate with finely selected herbs, and literally put you in a "forest of aromas" from the very first sip. The Kanomori can be enjoyed pure or as a gin & tonic. We recommend a neutral or Mediterranean tonic. This gin is also very effective in cocktails.

Incidentally, Yomeishu relies on equipment from Germany for the distillation, the Holstein still from Markdorf on Lake Constance is used. At the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) 2019 in London the Kanomori Gin was awarded the silver medal.

About Yomeishu Seizo

Yomeishu, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is best known in Japan for its product of the same name, Yomeishu Liqueur. The history of what is probably Japan's oldest medicinal liqueur dates back to 1602, so we can assume a great deal of experience in the use of plants and herbs in the production of alcohol. While many liqueurs such as Chartreuse or Jägermeister have detached themselves from their medicinal roots and have long been found in bars all over the world, Yomeishu liqueur is still rather considered a medicinal product. It is sold in pharmacies throughout the country. In early 2019, the company then launched three Craft Spirits: Kanomori Gin, Kanoshizuku Gin, and a Craft Gin Cocktail. The company is also keen to make its contribution to climate protection and has had a solar park built in Tsurugashima City in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, in 2013. This will generate electricity for 400 to 500 households per year.
